EmpowerThem Sponsorship Program
“Break the cycle of abuse, poverty and limited opportunities”
When you sponsor a teen mother and her child
How does it work?
The recently initiated “EmpowerThem” sponsorship program by the Faraja Young Women Development Organisation is dedicated to providing comprehensive support for teen mothers who have often been victims of gender-based violence and human trafficking. This program aims to empower these young mothers by offering them a safe haven, education, vocational training, daycare services, and emotional support. Therefore, we at Faraja ensure that every mother and her child are taken care of in the most respectful and unique way to break the cycle of abuse, poverty and limited opportunities and to create a brighter future for themselves and their children.
Components of the Program
Safe Haven
Teen mothers, often escaping from adverse situations, will be provided with secure and nurturing accommodation at the Faraja Center for a period of one year. This will offer them a safe environment to rebuild their lives.
Education
Education is a critical component of empowerment. We enrol the teen mothers in educational programs by teaching them the fundamental skills of the English Language, Mathematics and computers. The goal is to provide them with the knowledge and skills to secure a brighter future.
Vocational Training
To promote self-sufficiency, the program will offer a range of vocational training opportunities. This includes skills development in areas such as hairdressing, cooking, tailoring or any field of interest to help these young women attain marketable skills.
Daycare Services
Many teen mothers struggle to balance child-rearing responsibilities with education and job training. Our program will provide on-site daycare services, ensuring that their children are cared for while they attend classes or work on vocational training.
Emotional Support
Recognizing the trauma that many of these young mothers have endured, the program will offer emotional support services. This includes counselling, group therapy, and mentorship to help them heal and build self-esteem.
Medical follow-ups
Regular medical follow-ups ensure that any health issues or complications, both for the teen mom and her child, are identified at an early stage. This early detection can lead to more effective treatment and better health outcomes.
EmpowerTeenMoms
Navigating Sexual and Reproductive Wellness, First Aid, and Child Health.
A Sexual education and wellness class for young moms can offer numerous benefits, both for the mothers themselves and their children. This class provides young moms with comprehensive information about reproductive health, contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and safe sex practices. This knowledge empowers them to make informed decisions about their sexual health. Additionally, young moms can learn about healthy relationships, communication, and consent, which can help them build and maintain healthy partnerships. This knowledge can be crucial for both their own well-being and setting a positive
example for their children.
Life Skills and Parenting Education
The program will also offer life skills and parenting education, ensuring that these teen mothers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide a loving and nurturing environment for their children.
Program Benefits
- Empowerment. Teen mothers gain education, vocational skills, and emotional resilience.
- Child Development. Children receive quality care and early childhood education.
- Safety. A secure and supportive environment to break free from abusive situations.
