Vocational Training
Faraja has the mission of empowering young women towards self-fulfilment and sustainable social and economic development. They receive training in areas like cooking, tailoring, and hairdressing (hairdressing class is compulsory for all girls), and further education such as math and English, health or hygiene. For those in need, we also offer counselling with social workers and psychologists.
By teaching young mothers basic skills and professions, they are given the opportunity to succeed in the challenging life in Tanzania, such as starting their own tailoring business. Vocational training is held between January and the end of November. During that time, women are not allowed to leave the property. For human trafficking cases, enrolment is possible all year, as well as an extension of the stay after a year. Upon graduation, all women receive a starter package which includes a bed, mattresses, inventories, cooking equipment for cooking, saloon accessories for hairdressing plus three months’ rent in cash. This is given to each teen mother to help them start their own life, to help them to be self-reliant, and to start their own business. By saving the shares, they can for instance pay the school fees for their children and expand their business.
