Montessori Training Center
About Montessori
In 2019, we saw the need to have excellently trained kindergarten teachers based on the methods of Montessori, which is why the Montessori training centre was set up. Faraja also works with NGOs, Orphanages, churches and social workers to enrol young women in the two-year programme. In that way, graduates are able to provide comprehensive education to children, are capable of contributing to the community, and manage energy in the right ways. In 2022, eight students were registered to start their first year and five students are in their second year. The young women also live on Faraja’s property.
1. Montessori Teacher’s training
The centre offers a Montessori teacher’s training program. In this two-year program, girls who wish to become Montessori kindergarten teachers are taught Montessori values, learn about child development and practice with development tools. Mathematics, English, geography and other subjects are taught using sensory and linguistic materials. We have workshops where future teachers learn how to make their own materials for the classes. Then, during the second year of their training, future Montessori teachers spend a three-month internship in various Tanzanian Montessori kindergarten schools. By the time the girls leave the training center after two years, they know about child development, how to use the different materials for their future classes and how to create their own.
2. Pre-School-Montessori Training Center, “Education aiding to life”
During the Montessori classes, children learn with the development materials and how to manipulate them. They have concrete activities where they learn about different continents, countries, cultures and so on. They also have English and maths activities for every level, going from the basics to harder subjects.
Furthermore, they are offered “life activities” such as how to set the table, wash their clothes, lace their shoes, dress themselves, and sweep the floor. In the classes, children from various levels and ages are combined, which helps them learn about the social aspect of helping each other and living in a community.
Additionally, they acquire skills such as courtesy, the use of good language, and how to carry objects with grace, assurance and care. Caring for the environment and valuing harmony and kindness are strong values instilled in children here at the centre. Moreover, the importance of problem-solving is also at the heart of their education. For instance, when children argue we accompany them to discuss their feelings, agree on finding a solution and make peace with each other. We often call this program “Education aiding to life” because children are accompanied and prepared to be strong independent individuals who think and make decisions by themselves.
